Aerosol Spray Instructions

Use these steps for aerosol automotive paint cans, ideal for localized panel repairs or smaller sections where a professional spray gun is not available.

Safety First

  • Work in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.
  • Optimal conditions: 60°F–75°F with low humidity.
  • Wear respiratory protection and gloves.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Surface Preparation

Proper prep ensures a smooth, professional finish.

Clean the Surface

  • Use a wax-free, film-free soap (e.g., dish soap).
  • Dry completely, including seams and emblems.

Remove Contaminants

  • Wipe down with wax & grease remover.
  • Remove rust using sandpaper or a wire brush.

Prime Bare Metal or Plastic

  • Apply a thin coat of primer on exposed surfaces.
  • Use only automotive-compatible primers (No enamel primer).
  • Let primer dry per manufacturer’s instructions.

Sanding

  • Lightly sand using:
    • P600–P800 wet sandpaper for smooth finishes.
  • Clean & degrease the surface again after sanding.

Application Process

Base Coat Application

  • Shake well (2–3 minutes).
  • Test spray on a sample panel.
  • Spray technique:
    • Hold 6”–8” from the surface.
    • Apply thin, even coats with a smooth, back-and-forth motion.
    • Overlap passes by 50% for even coverage.
    • Wait 5–15 minutes between coats.

Tri-Coat Application (For Tri-Coat Paints Only)

  • Apply the second base layer 15 minutes after the first.
  • Use the same spray technique as Step 1.

Clear Coat Application

    • Wait at least 1 hour after the last base coat.
    • Apply 2–3 thin coats, waiting 5–10 minutes between each.
    • Drying Time:
      • Touch-dry: 2–3 hours.
      • Full cure: 72 hours.
    • Buffing:
      • After curing, buff to a high gloss with automotive polish or rubbing compound.
    • Waxing:
      • Wait 2–3 weeks before applying wax.

Important Notes

  • Each aerosol can covers 3–4 sq. ft. with 2–3 coats.
  • Always test on a sample surface before the actual project.
  • Mask off areas to prevent overspray.
  • Start spraying from the highest point and work downward.
  • Adjust spray tip for a professional finish:
    • + / – lever controls fan width.

1K & 2K Aerosol Clear Coat

1K Clear Coat

  • Fast-drying acrylic lacquer.
  • Protects against weather, chemicals, and heat (up to 250°F).
  • Bare or rusted surfaces must be primed.

2K Clear Coat

  • Follow activation instructions on the can.
  • Use the same surface prep & application as above.

Additional Tips

  • Best results at 72°F, 50% humidity, with 1.5 mil coat thickness.
  • If using 2K clear coat, follow activation instructions.
  • Shelf life: ~2 years (store in a cool, dry place).
  • Clean nozzles with urethane solvent after use.
